10 Years of Mayfair: The Story Behind the Decade Archive

To mark a decade of watch art, we sat down with Mayfair to talk legacy, craftsmanship, and the hidden prints that became The Decade Archive.

Key idea: “When I paint watches, I’m painting legacy.”

The Interview

Where did the love of watches come from?

It came from the love of watches — it runs in my family. My nonno (Italian grandfather) was the watchmaker of the village back in the old days in Italy.

Why watches?

I’ve always had a natural love for them. The craftsmanship takes me to different places, and I love seeing people solidify their legacy with self-worth.

What was your first ever piece?

A Mondrian-inspired Rolex Daytona. I put it out in 2015 just sharing paintings — and here we are.

How would you describe your artistic style?

A mix of street and contemporary. It’s moving more street with the new additions of the Chain Gang. The watch art is luxury painting.

What does watch art represent to you?

It shows what people’s time is worth. People work hard all their lives to reward themselves with a luxury watch that marks milestones.

What story are you telling?

Their legacy. I literally paint their legacy.

How did The Decade Archive happen?

I was going through old archive prints and realised there were pieces I loved that no one has ever seen. It lined up with the anniversary of the start of my journey — so it felt like the perfect release.

Why the scarcity: 20 made of each?

Scarcity means investment and placement for the buyer. It’s a solid investment that doesn’t change over time.

Which pieces mean the most?

The 2015 one holds a lot of meaning — it’s one of the first pieces I ever did. The 2024 one with the horses came during a dark period; the horses symbolise the rise again.

What’s a typical day in the studio?

Imagination, my studio setup, getting into the flow, and expressing myself.

Where do you find inspiration?

Everywhere. Nature and museums are killer for colour palettes.

Why “Mayfair”?

That’s where it all started. Someone called me “Mr Mayfair” once and it stuck. It screams luxury.

Where do you see yourself next?

Taking down the current kids on the block — Alec Monopoly, Banksy, the lot. Time to take over.

What does success look like?

Someone seeing a piece and instantly recognising it as a Mayfair piece.

What are people really buying?

10 years of grind. 10 years of imagination. You’re buying into the new kid on the block.
